What is Wheeling Free Press

Wheeling Free Press began in February 2023 as a small project covering local politics in Wheeling, W.Va. Since then, we have expanded to cover social issues, culture and the community as a whole. Our goal is to offer thoughtful, nuanced and, when needed, adversarial coverage in a unique, independent way.

As our name suggests, Wheeling Free Press is committed to free access to the news. We will never paywall our stories or flood our stories with meaningless ads of “doctors hate her for this one trick” or “seven super foods that will reverse aging.” We are solely funded by the generosity of our readers and supporters so we can offer you news unbeholden to big donors or special interests — the way news should be.
